All very good points(, man).  Another that occurred to me is between these
hollow shells and T. S. Eliot's _The Hollow Men_.  I feel Eliot's presence
lurking behind much of GR:  London, Death, Madame Sorostris and her wicked
tarot deck, and of course the "T. S. Eliot April" on p. 35.  And TRP's
early story "The Small Rain" is somewhat over-scumbled with a WasteLand
impasto, nicht wahr?

For the helluvit, I looked at the index to a bibliography of critical
writings about Eliot, but there were no entries for Qlippoth/Kabbalah/
alternate spellings of these.
