Well for what it's worth, I'll make my second post to this list.
I just went to Bali on vacation and picked up a really interesting
book by Adrian Vickers entitled "Bali: A Paradise Created."
Its not only a really good overview of Bali history but of colonialism
in East Asia in general (a la Edward Said's "Orientalism" (a little over my
head, but hey!).
On the "pop culture" side of things Gates' "The Road Ahead" (gasp!)
Had to check it out though, computer geek that I am.
I have begun re-reading Vineland and started reading "Slow Learner."
I really enjoyed "Low Lands." Love that garbage dump scene...
Recently finished reading "Genius" by James Gleick (sp?). A really
interesting tale of the life and times of the nobel physicist Richard
Feynman. Which prompted me to pick up "Surely, Mr. Feynman you must
be joking!" A NY Times bestseller before I was ever born... :(
I am anxiously awaiting "Mason & Dixon" (is that the title?),
TP's next book........
And now back to our regularly scheduled mailing list...
