That really is the title of a book by William Gaddis, just J R. No
netspeakish abbreviation. I'm not that far into it yet (only about 100 pp
out of 762), but so far it's good and really funny (and mentions entropy
within the first 20 pages or so). Actually, in the introduction to the
newest edition of Gaddis's first book, The Recognitions, William Gass says
that when Pynchon first published V., there were some people that thought
he was just Gaddis writing under a pen name. So you might think Gaddis is
worth looking into. And as a matter of fact, I've never seen Gaddis and
Pynchon in the same room together, either.
