The *I*of the passage, IMO, is the book itself speaking in guise of a campy queen, 
describing itself in a way that denigrates, yet is proud of, its oddness, its lack of *high 
seriousness* or fashionable tastes (literarily, candily, genitally, usw).  The colors, of course, 
are the GR code for *good things,* of which the book apparently considers itself one.  
Good judgement, I'd say.
