Terrorism

Been reading some Delillo crit that I got off the web, one article of
which brought up a very interesting debate between those who believe
there is a the relationship between the media and terrorists or
terrorism. In essence do terrorist groups need the media and
consequently spot targets or plan with the idea that they will get
maximum coverage like Munich '72 or the Mountbatten assassination (which
backfired right?) or do they not think about media coverage at all while
planning their deeds (the recent crash over Long Island?--I know it
received a hell of a lot of coverage but nobody claimed responsibility).
Seems there are varying opinions...
