 From Meg L:

> Wasn't that _Gorky Park_? William Hurt was dreadful . . .

Under the rubric "death of the subject" Pomo guy Fredric
Jameson considers Hurt "as one of a new generation of film
stars whose status is markedly distinct from that of the preceding
generation of male superstars, such as Steve McQueen or Jack
Nicholson (or even more distantly Brando), let alone of earlier
moments in the evolution of the institution of the star. The immediately
preceding generation projected their various roles through and by
way of their well-know off-screen personalities which often connoted
rebellion and nonconformism."

Goes on to say that Hurt has sexuality but lacks personality in the
older sense.

Singles out _Body Heat_ rather than _Gorky Park_ for
discussion. Calls BH a nostalgia film.
