Check out NY Times Sunday Magazine, 1/19/97 issue, p. 16.  Article by 
Michiko Kakutani on Paranoia.  Mostly a culture shtick--...And in the 
works of Thomas Pynchon, vast conspiratorial networks metastatize, 
symbols of either the overwhelming nature of reality in our 
information-mad world or simply the yearning for meaning, experienced by 
poor delusional human beings.
BTW, _Infinite Jest_ is out in paperback, Chris Carter will probably be 
leaving the X-Files next season to work in movies, and yes movie rights 
for Delillo's Underground has already been purchased by Paramount, I do 
believe.
