Jules sez in response to the possible suggestion of p-pedophilia:
>I don't believe I did anything of the kind. Chrissie said that he had a big
>thing for Lolitas and that this was why he fell for her.
>
>Having a big thing for Lolitas is not pedophilia. Lolita was a sexually
>active and aggressive pubescent girl who seduced Humbert and then abandoned
>him for a bisexual writer named Quilty.
>>>>>Maybe I better reread the book but this isn't exactly how I
remember it. Wasn't Lolita PRE-pubescent (at the start of the book)?
The fact that Sue Lyons wasn't pre- was what blew the entire movie.
If Lol HAD already reached pubescence, what could all the big stir
have been about?
I don't think Chrissie, despite her charms, would have held much
interest on the part of Humbert. That she DID attract Pynch goes
a long way toward disproving the so-called case. Dispite what
Chrissie and/or Pynchon might have thought or said.
On the other hand, it's all relative. I don't really GET the big
concern over what-age person one is attracted to. No particular
perversity should be attached unless irresitible impulses are
involved as in the case of Humbert. Immature needs are everywhere.
Excuse the pycho-babble.
Prolly completely out to lunch,
P.
