I meant to comment the other day when someone
uncoolly alleged the Moody review was the ONLY GOOD ONE
they'd read, and somebody else demurred (another reviewer
I think). One thing (among much) I liked about Rick's
review was the judgement that Pynchon writing is a perfect
meld of voice and content though I wondered at the time if
this might rub some p-listers the wrong way since a fair
amount of space here is devoted to finding deep meaings.
I myself have been an "offender" in this regard on
occasion but still think the unique P-voice is what we
should keep our eyes (ears) on and perhaps tone down a little
on the deep meaning (though that part IS a lot of fun). So
in a way I'm saying maybe Rick didn't go as far as he might
have, but perhaps I am full of shit.
