70's music

I was all of 8 years old in 1976, when all the punk excitement really
got going, so (needless to say) I missed out. All I can remember with
any certainty was that I thought Donna Summers' "Hot Stuff" was cool.
Doesn't mean I'm a complete ignoramus about the period though -- in
addition to the classic Bowie and Reed records mentioned by others, I'll
throw in the great brooding folk-rock of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell,
Richard Thompson, and the godfather of sadcore, the uncannily timeless
Nick Drake.

For an idiosyncratic and intelligent list of good 70's music, have a
look at:
http://www.interbridge.com/loud/faqfaves.html
wherein Scott Miller, frontman for cult faves the Loud Family, picks 300
(!) personal favourites, 30 for each year of the decade.

Cheers,
Paul
