Thanks to all for the info on non-germanic rockers. Living in this
backwater as I do, I doubt that I'll be able to find any of it so as to
give it a listen.
Every so often, when the 'spherics are just right, I can pick up some
french-canadian radio and tv where I'll see/hear some francophones trying
to do what seems to be rock & roll. To my ear, it just doesn't work. So
I'd have to go along with Jay in his sentiment that "frogs can't rock".
I'd forgotten about Richie Valenz and "La Bamba" and that, in turn,
reminded me of the hispanic band in the movie "Dusk to Dawn" -- the band
which played while Salma Hayek did what I consider to be just about the
sexiest table dance I've ever seen (and she wasn't even naked).
But Freddie Fender? I just recall him doing country-style ballads.
But still, the vast majority of rock is done by english and germanic
musicians. Maybe rock requires the hard and gutteral consonants, or
something?
