Wondering if anybody knows whether or not any of the rockets in GR might
have been tested at a place called Pydna?
I just heard from a couple of musicians/interactive media artist friends,
Elisa Rose and Gary Danner -- they perform and record under the name
Station Rose (http://www.well.com/www/gunafa/), and will be performing at
an event called "Nature One", August 2, at Kastellaun/Hunsrueck, Germany, a
place they describe as "ex-rocket base Pydna" and go on to say that "That´s
a spooky one: more than 20.000 people are expected to show up at this
ex-rocket testing ground, where the Luftwaffe tested experimental aircraft.
We play Saturday, around midnight, in the "House/ProgressiveCircus".
Elisa and Gary improvise interactive graphics and electronic music in real
time (they've helped to pioneer the whole field of live, real-time
multimedia broadcast over the WWW), and it amuses me to think about them
(among other things, they used to stay with Timothy Leary when they visited
LA) doing their thing at a place with a connnection to Gravity's Rainbow.
Their performance is also the kind of thing I think of when I read
Pynchon's description of Benjamin Franklin's late-night gig in M&D.
