The future of the list?

I've probably said too much on this topic already but Andrew's
reminder that people sometimes need to have it pointed out to them that
their posts are seriously subpar suggests to me that some individual
list member COULD ASSUME SUCH A ROLE OR FUNCTION on a regular basis.
I know of course we should all just start being more critical
of each other. Wouldn't that accomplish much the same goal?
Well, yes, but it might be important that someone is DESIGNATED--so it
is clearly understood they are attempting to speak for the entire group.
It will be a brave person who volunteers for this assignment.
And volunteering is all is will take. Volunteering plus a statement
of committment to the group.
Personally, I wouldn't find this as oppressive as a moderator, mainly
because all judgements would be subject to appeal from anyone on the
list. (hate those judgements from which there is no appeal)
