The future of the list -- nanny time?

The "war" part of it is a problem, isn't it, Charles? Call me a
hatchet-wielding harridan, claim that "some societally determined reluctance
on the part of any woman to post [...] would seem entirely frivolous in this
context," characterize what I wrote in that post as "hypergynosensitivity"
and then tell me you mean it "lovingly, but sternly": but do not come back
to say that *I* was the condescending one.
As I've just told another male list-member, who's written a private message
to say,
"I've enjoyed your posts and would hate to see you lurking and not posting.
I hope we can get through this without making this a moderated list, it
would be a real mistake.
Keep on postin'..."
what I wrote in that on-list post did not come out of my own musings
entirely. I didn't want to say this publicly, though I [will] do so now, but
a couple of the women on this list have written to me privately to say that
they're intimidated by what gets thrown my way and that they hope to get
over their culturally-induced inhibition, exacerbated by too much list
sarcasm, that's been keeping them so quiet until now.
Perhaps this will help you [and others] recognize that some "distaff
supression," as you say, has been -- perhaps inadvertently and mostly
unintentionally [I believe] -- going on here for a while now.
