Back in the mid-60's I'd been reading an awful lot of
WWII history (Shirer, etc..) in high school. I ran across
CATCH-22, since it was "about" that period and read it.
Somehow, there was either a blurb by Pynchon about Heller
or a blurb about Pynchon by Heller and I eventually glommed
on to _V_ and read it in study hall (it was in the library)
during my senior year ('66-'67).
It's been downhill ever since.
