I reach for my gun

As long as we continue to keep MDMD references in the subject lines of our
MDMD-related posts, it's relatively simple for anybody who wants to skip
the rest to read only MDMD stuff and use the DELETE button as it was
intended.

Along the lines of Mike Weaver's recent post, in addition to serving as a
reference, the list represents a community -- human beings talking to each
other via email. How you divorce the human relationships from the book
analysis? And why would you want to? If I just want to dig in and analyze
Pynchon's texts, I can do that on my own, with the help of a library full
of books, Pynchon Notes, Tim Ware's fabulous web site, etc. But, in order
to learn from the folks on this list, I have to enter into a relationship
with them, attenuated somewhat by the medium we're using perhaps, but human
relationships nonetheless, give and take, an ongoing conversation, based on
trust, mutual respect, reciprocity, good faith, the same human values we
bring to flesh-world relationships if we want them to be successful.

SHOPPER: He entered shop after shop, priced nothing, spoke
no word, and looked at all objects with a wild and vacant stare.
