i'll take off here from "a great many directions...":

what do y'all make of the kryptosam ad on p 71 (viking compass ed) of
GR? 
"It is suggested, in cryptographic applications, that a proper stimulus
be included with the message which will reliably produce tumescence and
ejaculation."
i would assume the stimulus is tied in with the "component of the
seminal fluid to date . . . unidentified" (same passage). this comes
directly after the section which begins with slothrop being injected by
a doctor (61) and subsequently launching into the kenosha kid/toilet
bowl scenario. now, on p 75, we get:
"And Black Wing has even found an American, a Lieutenant Slothrop,
willing to go under light narcosis to help illuminate racial problems in
his own country." during which sequence, as he dove into the toilet,
slothrop worried about being sodomized by a "whole dark gang of awful
Negroes" (64). pynchon has definitely complexified the old rocket/boner
thing. any thoughts? (realize that i'm 80-some pages into the book,
which is not to say i'm worried at all about spoilers, rather to allow
for a "read on, boy" response)
