Poking fun at ? (was Trends)

     Sorry, my last message went in the poky somewhere (at least, it showed 
     up here as a solid black screen with no text - mmm, maybe the cc:mail 
     gateways have been WATCHING me lately)
     
     Anyway, I think this list has the collective sense of humor of a GNAT! 
      No wait, of a SPIDER MITE!  Geez, talk about not getting the point of 
     something A-AND being just a trifle thin-skinned . . .
     
     See, the guy who writes for Spy, has probably actually read Pynchon.  
     But, since M & D is so high profile, lots of people who will never 
     actually read the book will buy it just to be seen carrying it around. 
     So, following this logic, those of us who read wouldn't be caught dead 
     carrying it around, at least not prominently.  We keep it in our 
     backpacks, so it won't get wet.  Ergo, if you can see it, it ain't 
     being read.
     
     I am amazed at the number of posts I read today that appeared to take 
     the article seriously???  Quick, a rapid dose of Jonathan Swift for 
     all of you wankers.
