"27.27 `La Changhaienne' The Lady From Shanghai' an Orson Welles
film. Anyone able to connect the film and the novel or is this just
a little joke?"
A joke, I think, still . . .
THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI is a film about deception and the rich. Welles
plays a sailor recruited by a wealthy man for a cruise on his yacht.
Along the way, it seems that Welles is being Used by those aboard--
to seduce a wife? to confirm her infidelity? to plot against the
husband? to help another fake a suicide?
The film's last sequence includes a delirious murder trial, a chase through
a Chinese theater and ending in the famous scene in a hall of mirrors
in an amusement park. Lots of Kute Korrespondences, if nothing else!
