Well, I think the Welles reference may be relevant to a degree.  The very
first sentences of M&D, for example, evoke images similar to those at the
beginning of CK (the movie, not the p-lister and not the designer).  Other
similarities to CK relate to the impossible biographing (Cherrycoke
offering way too many details) of a guy named Charles.

But, as discussed earlier on the p-list (and possibly now preserved in the
archives), there's also a joke on the term "shanghaiing"--which is what
happens to hapless fellas before they find themselves at see on ships
they'd have never boarded voluntarily.
