In other words the reliable old dialectic beloved of, in recent times,
Marx, Engels, Gramsci and loads of other socialist philosophers.
Also the bifurcation of chaos theory.
Recently George Soros wiffled on about his proposed 'way forward' for
the world, proudly introducing this concept he called something like
'reflexivity'. * Dialectic* is like some real blasphemous utterance
in these post communist times. Can't start using that language,
slippery slope etc, admit one bit was right...
There are some oppositions which are illuminative contrasts set up by
TP and some which are expressions of a particular struggle of
opposite tendencies within some aspect of existence. Their resolutions
are the motors of change. That's dialectical motion.
Read the book review Nurturing Nature in Stephen Jay Gould's An Urchin
in the Storm where he asks if it is necessary for U.S. scientists to continue
denying the validity of dialectics as a tool because their country's enemy
has made a religion out of one rigid version.
If you're really clever you could try Roy Bhaskar's 'Dialetics'. Then if you
are kind you could translate it into language I can understand.
I'm sure he's done an exhaustive job on the various forms of motion and
transformations that existence is, but talk about ivory tower
linguistic elitism, it's the real thing.
Until later
Mike
