Wicks/Wiccians

I did a little checking on the internet and found an online version of the
Anglo-Saxon Chronicles, compiled in the 9th century AD. There is a passage
which might suggest that a chap named Ethelmer (and there are many
Ethel-prefixed names, Ethel being a Germanic name meaning "noble") was a
deceased alderman of (perhaps) the Wiccians, members of the pagan religion
known as Wicca or Wicce. A later Ethel, Ethelmund, is mentioned as a
Wiccian alderman.

Interesting stuff.
