Turns out ace saxman Lenny Pickett, formerly of Tower of Power, (by way of
The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and other Big Names) is in fact the current
band leader for Saturday Night Live. This and other tidbits available at:

wherein can be gleaned the following verbiage:

Whew. I'm glad we got that one straightened out, huh?
