Whoever was in charge of Pynchon's publicity campaign for _Slow Learner_
also placed a full-page ad in the People magazine, among other places.
Being new to North America at the time, I had no idea why my friend thought
it so amusing when she called to say I should pick up a copy of that week's
People...  
In the past ten+ years Pynchon's done one thing after another to revive his
literary career, both SL and _Vineland_ serving to keep us reminded he's
still around.  Why this belief that he might be averse to making money *and*
making sure he gets all the publicity he can?
