Bruce -- Last night after getting the kids into bed and sitting down to
more of Mason & Dixon, I asked my wife why she apparently has no interest
whatsoever in my latest literary fling with Wallace and Pynchon. Over the
years we have both changed and changed again, but one constant has been
our discussions of writing. "You know," she said, "these are all guy
novels, written by guys, for guys. When you cut through all of the
theoretical bullshit and get down to it, they're all awkward adolescent
boys, with overactive hormones, simply competing for who has the
biggest one." ....end of conversation. Reading your post this morning
about TRP's being bigger made me laugh out loud!
Regardless of size, congratulations to DFW for this tremendous honor!
