Golly, I never get over these surrealistic moments of p-list gullibility!
I mean, I don't even bother to look at the pictures they put on dustjackets,
and I have no interest in going to Jester's site to see the picture, but
just reading about it makes the whole plot obvious. I don't need to see
the physical picture to see the big one....
Now that Pynchon has gone over to the other side, and is part of the
ravenous money-making machine at HH, he has learned the value of trechery,
guile, and cunning in marketing. Clearly, the Bone picture was cooked up
between HH, TRP, Melinie Jackson and Bone, for four purposes:
a) Polish up a dulling recluse image
b) Reduce the actual demand for paparazzi pictures
c) Enjoy a joke at the expense of fanatics out there.
d) Sell newspapers (Bone) and Books (the rest of the cabal)
They figured all they have to do is run a picture, claim it's Pynchon, and
no one would, or could, prove them wrong. They used a stand in. Once
they got everything posed, Tommy boy decided, what the hell, I'll go one
better, and stepped into the background. Now everyone is trying to match
up the hooded figure with pixelated reductions from CNN, and he's laughing
his ass off, 'cause you're all using the wrong man.
Oh, so who *is* the hooded figure? None other than Ted Kozinski, out on
bail!

(But seriously, folks, why swallow the Times version hook, line and sinker?)
