How pleasant to see underappreciated tricksters like Bunnel and Stoppard
brought to people's attention--a nice change of pace from the usual
references (DFW, et. al.). I interesect a bit more with with Tom than Lou,
having done some amateur acting in a couple of his plays. I'm most familiar
with his earliest full-length plays, Rozencranz through Travesties, say--and
each is brilliant. A-and don't forget Jumpers!
I have to admit I'm a bit less impressed with his later stuff, his
screenplays in particular. I saw a rather uninspired production of Arcadia
at Chicago's Goodman not so long ago--just something terribly amiss about
it. American actors should never take on English roles (there goes
Shakespeare). In fact, since everyone in Britian can act, it might be
better if american theater comapanies just kidnapped random Brits off the
foggy streets, transporting them to the new world in the hold. Theatre
pirates. Just a thought.
My point was what?
