fractals

The recent remarks about the Stoppard play reminded me of Barth's
references to Mandelbrot fractals in his FURTHER FRIDAYS. I imagine the
list regulars have already gone over the applications of this geometry in
GR and LOT? Was anything said about the Florence chapter in V. where
Herbert having done eight clear impersonations to give us Cairo now
complicates things by starting out impersonating Evan G. but then
subdivides into other pov characters--Mantissa and Gaucho come to mind?
Fractals are a great help with LOT and GR. They may even help with V.,
and as a screen-saver they provide endless variations. JRR
