1) My wife informs me that Hedy Lamarr, who it seems was
both an internationally acclaimed motion picture actress and
instrumental in advancing Anglo-American missile guidance
technology, was arrested for shoplifting a pair of knickers
sometime later in her career (cue Jane's Addiction video.)
2) The actor David Niven was, I believe, the head of a MI &
combat division called PHANTOM for most of the war. I think
it was RAF stuff. Christopher Lee, of Dracula fame, was also
a British intelligence officer. Someone else may know more.
3) Has anyone noticed that Harvey Nichols is mis-spelt
with a second "l" on p 94 of GR? (It isn't only my Picador
edition?) Now, before everyone rightly tells me that I am being a
pointless pedant, may I explain---I am utterly and hopelessly
dyslexic---the most abominable speller, as many of my posts
embarrassingly exemplify. So finding this is a perverse
little gem for me.
