Subject: A new Pynchon fan and Gravity's Rainbow...
I am slightly new to Pynchon (having only read 49 and
Vineland) but it seems to me that GR is his masterpiece.
Reading all these posts leaves me both scared of the book
and intrigued. Any advice on how to get through the book
without getting too discouraged??

I say:
I'm in my fourth read of GR in three years. After reading 4 years of
previous posts from the PynchonList Archives and lurking for almost a year
here, I can say this has been the most rewarding read yet. There's a reason
why it's a hard book to get through: It's a great book.(period!) I read
Vineland after reading the first 200 pages of GR to get a feel for his
prose, and went back to the beginning of GR for read number two. You'll
just have to read it several times because from each read you come away
with a little more understanding and a better appreciation for what a novel
could be. GR ain't no Grisham book.
Cheers,
