Bad COL49?

Yeah, well, some of us are suckers for *good* pseudo-Jamesian.

I'm glad you highlighted "The Courier's Tragedy." I had read V. too
hastily, leaving all too many stones unturned, in 1965. When I read CoL49,
the intricacy, humor and horror of the synopsis, and the bits of
"Wharfingeriana" around it, made me think: "If he puts this much loving
care into a McGuffin, what *can't* he do??!!??"

Which made me back up and re-start CoL49 with a keener eye, and then go
back to V. And start waiting for what would be GR.
