Pynchons, Puncheons, Maules

No connections to Hawthorne's Pyncheons, whose name, at least, is
fictional.  No roots in Salem for TRP as far as I can tell; more Boston
and western Mass.

I may be wrong on this, but I coulda sworn that I had heard that members of the actual Pynchon family had threatened suit, or at least complained in writing to Hawthord for use of the family name.  Anyone have any info on this?
