Doesn't really answer the Greek case.  Ancient Greeks did manage to range
far and wide, sans planes and motorways, right?  Not that those Germanic,
Slavic et al tribes had any such conveniences, either. I've no idea what the
answer is, but linguistic isolation *is* a curiosity, in all three cases
[i.e., Greek, Albanian, and Armenian].
