Well, Kirn admits he's not a fan, so 'twould be surprising if he did love M&D.
Actually, his review (you can find it at
http://www.slate.com/BookReview/97-05-06/BookReview.asp) is well-written,
humorous and refreshingly subjective (I also happen to be a fan of Kirn's
fiction-- "My Hard Bargain" is a wonderful collection of stories). What I do
find odd given his distaste for TP's intellectual "games" is that he wrote an
absolute rave review of David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest in New York
Magazine a while back. Jest is certainly a novel that I'd rcommend to any fan
of Pynchon's (I'm new to the list; I assume that book has been discussed
here), a book that owes a great debt to TP.
Oh well, go figure...
