Dana:

If someone else has already mentioned this I apologize for the clutter, but I
have not been able to keep current with the overwhelming volume of posts
lately. If you search the archives, you'll find an anecdote from me two or
three years ago about this "V period" business. A friend of a friend was hit
on in a bar in New York by someone claiming to be Pynchon. He said that one
of his pet peeves was that people kept referring to the novel as "V" when it
was "'V period,' dammit!" I've never run across any other reference to a
comment by Pynchon about the title, and this one, unfortunately, just screams
"con job" to me. Maybe Jules can tell you more.
