I don't want to sound patronizingly, but has everybody caught that "Amok" is a
Malay word just then (18th C.) entering the dictionaries of etymology in Western
languages? It's just decades older than the phrase "running amok". Maybe it
would be interesting, and certainly worth someone's term paper or sumpm, to
investigate how and to what degree our vocab was affected by colonialization
(Eastindiacompany and some such folks).
