Hey! Next time, use the _cold, wet_ end of that thing!
>But Kelly also used to work for Disney for a bit. He illo'ed
>for Dumbo as I recall.
Your unearthly powers of recall are as sharp as ever, sir. And I have
placed this directly into the personal "I'll be slab-glabbered!" file
for today. From "Comic Art & Graffix Gallery Artist Biographies - Walt
Kelly" at http://www.comic-art.com/~herriman/bios-1/kelly001.htm:

He went to work at the Bridgeport Post after graduating High School and
in 1936 found himself working at Walt Disney Studios as an animator.
During this time Walt worked on such famous Disney vehicles as Fantasia,
Dumbo and Pinocchio. When the studio was hit by a strike in 1941 Walt
moved back to Connecticut and began doing comic book work for Western
Publishing, also known as Dell.At Dell, he illustrated Walt Disney
Comics & Stories covers & interiors, New Fun Comics and Animal Comics.
It was in the last title he introduced what later became his footnote
character, Pogo the Possum along with the other cast members of the
Okefenokee swamp.

And a shame-faced tip o' the skimmer to Jeremy: You're quite right about
that Nora Alice quote: I'm afraid the old brain cell isn't what it once
was. Comes of combining yohimbe bark, morning-glory seeds and banana
peels in an attempt to glean more and deeper insight from "Is It OK to
Be a Luddite?"
