Ol' Harrison sez more:

>At Dell, [Walt Kelly] illustrated Walt Disney
>Comics & Stories covers & interiors, New Fun Comics and Animal Comics.
>It was in the last title he introduced what later became his footnote
>character, Pogo the Possum along with the other cast members of the
>Okefenokee swamp.

Bingo, the beginning of a hint of a Connexion: that strip was called
Bumbazine, which is obviously a respelling of bombazine, and we were just
talking about that the other day right here on this List! For those
who've been too immersed in the history of Jesuitry to notice the Telling
Details, it's a kind of fabric, and it shows up at the Gloucestershire
house of Peach the clothier in Mason & Dixon. Now why would Our Comics
Fan bring up bombazine in Particular, if not to foreshadow the eventual
Reference, sure to be found by one of us, to that Prince of the Swamp and
his friends?

Cheers,
David
