Hey all,
Just noticed something odd about my paperback copy of 'Underworld' (which
I'm enjoying). I bought it around late October, maybe early November,
secondhand; it's the second paperback edition (the one that was smaller
than the bigger, first paperback edition) and I think it was printed
in/for Britain since the only rrp on the back is in pounds sterling. The
oddity is that the copyright page says:
First published 1997 by Scribner, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Inc.,
New York.
First published in Great Britain 1998 by Picador.
This edition published 1999 by Picador.
and it goes on, but- 1999? Can anyone who knows something about the
publishing industry give me a reason why this might be? Misprint? Time
travel? Picador hate printing two editions of something in one year and
they figured it was close enough? TAFKAP influence?
Sorry to bring this up on pynchon-l but I'm not on any DeLillo lists and I
thought Pynchon fans might appreciate the weirdness if nothing else.
Matt
