Well, I read about 90% of IJ and found nothing worthwhile - The jest of
the title is clearly the joke DFW plays on the critics and his readers -
Somehow because he sticks his thumb in our eyes we must declare him a
genius
DFW reminds of Harry Conick (sp) Jr. - HC is a crooner, who because he
sings a few songs made famous by Sinatra, declares himself the "heir" to
Sinatra's legacy - DFW, because he touches on some some themes associated
with TRP & Delilo, imagines himself to be in their league (and I have
heard DFW speak and he does have these delusions
