That's a much better analogy than the ones I posted before, actually. 
Nothing inherently wrong with either one, *until* the self-delusions come
into play. I susepct I would have a lot less of a problem with Wallace's
writing if he didn't think himself to infallible (I also have heard DFW
speak, three days after hearing Kurt Vonnegut, who was so humble about his
own admittedly deteriorating skills that it almost hurt...).
