Interestingly, it seems to have been deemed necessary by the American
education powers that college undergraduates should know about this
gentleman at just about the precise moment in history when the Pincher was
coming down the pike. The preface to the second edition of _Introduction
to Contemporary Civilization in the West_ (source readings) published in
1954 by Columbia University Press stated that a selection from the
writings of Rathenau was being included for the first time. (he'd
been unrepresented in the 1946 first edition)
