Why does Pynchon name Rosa Luxemberg here? "The Revolution
died--....with Rosa Luxemberg." Bloody Rosa was murdered
during the Spartacus Revolt of January 1919. GR.P.158 "on a
multi-leveled early evening of balconies...the left will run
a women whose name is never given, but everyone understands
it is Rosa Luxemberg." Pynchon is interested in Spartacus
revolts (see TSI), and more importantly, with this single
historical figure or Name, Pynchon invites the reader to
consider a plethora of possible "multi-leveled" political
allusions.
