Both the rockets and the Rocket.  The things and the idea or, as many
things were at the beginning of this thread, a fetish.  The fact that
these things are able penetrate (sexual innuendo intended) space and
reach out and touch people in lands far, far away has enormous
implications in global dynamics in the second half of the 20th century,
of course.  Then there's the Rocket.  I mean, look at the damn thing. 
I remember a female comic who asked if it would look like that if a
woman designed it, naturally implying that it would not be so penisoid.

BTW, I dug out Mendelson (from _Mindful Pleasures_) and Kharpertian
(from _PN_ #17).  After flipping through them briefly last night, I
plan to reread them, since Terrance and Derek have been discussing
them.
