Yeah, the second half of the twentieth century and beyond, I
think. Will Pynchon's GR one day be a more important book
than it is today? Why was Henry Adams "revived", remember no
one read Adams for a while and then he became a best seller,
and Melville, well let me leave herman out of this, though I
must say, I think Pynchon's career and Melville's strikingly
similar in some ways. Driving on the belt parkway in
Brooklyn yesterday, I saw to female road workers working
under a sign that read, "Men working." I guess the men were
down in the Man hole. If Eve could rename the world, what
would she call a man hole? And would twin towers (the world
trade center in NYC, r whatever they call it now), be so
big?
