well, i happened to have liked _Picture This_ quite a bit, finding it by
turns gut-wrenchingly funny (particularly in its characture of Plato) and
profoundly interesting. the long strange trip which the Rembrandt painting
serving as the protagonist for the novel took on its way to the Met was
certainly interesting for me. and Heller's observation that the concepts of
"corporations", "stock markets", and "insurance" which seem to dominate our
collective lives so very much at this point in history can all be traced
back to the growth of the dutch herring fishing industry during the 15c
certainly gave me pause for thought.
(i guess if you'd already known all the interesting tid-bits before having
read it, the novel might be less fun)

besides content, the style seemed rather novel - i'm not sure how to term
it... "recursion"? i think it was also present in _C-22_ - but there it
seemed tinged with sarcasm.

anyhow, in my corner of the universe, _Picture This_ is the Heller-ian
equivalent of _M&D_ (critics be damned!).
