I agree completely–Catch 22 is second on my list of important books.  
(Important to me that is–as if anything else really matters to an 
individual.  I don't think I need to tell _this_ group what's first.) 
Heller's other books are, to me, a very mixed bag.  Something Happened, Good 
as Gold, and Closing Time are all good enough I guess. Picture This and the 
one about King David I couldn't even stay interested enough in to finish.  
Noble but failed efforts I guess I'd call ‘em.  I am looking forward to his 
final book.  He, along with Pynchon, Vonnegut, Suess, and maybe a handful of 
other authors I think did or are still doing some good with their work, 
beyond simply entertaining.
