Interesting review of Norman Mailer's bio _Mailer_ by Mary V.
Dearborn. The reviewer, Caleb Crain speculates about Mailer's first novel
_The Naked and the Dead_ :

"[The Naked and the Dead] reads today as a solid trooper of a
novel. Occasionally it wheezes and chuffs as if it were a novel of
ideas. It isn't, though a few projectile curves traced in a general's
diary probably gave Thomas Pynchon the title conceit of 'Gravity's Rainbow.'"

Anyone heard of this?
