I suspect there are but can't pinpoint them. Does Pynchon himself half
believe in these rather farfetched binary differences or is he merely
burlesquing strongly held idiological positions that Doug reminds us were
also featured in GR?

In a way Pynchon is a child of the Beat Generation. Could he ever shed
this influence? Would he want to?
