I agree with Terrance about M&D -- extraordinarily rich and satisfying,
good enough to re-read (I've read it twice, once along with the P-list, and
will read it again I'm sure) make me look forward to Pynchon's next, happy
to know he continues to make engrossing literature. As wonderful as GR is,
I'm not one to enshrine it as the only Pynchon worth reading. I like
Vineland a lot, too. The current chapter, VLVL(7), uniquely captures the
giddiness and edginess and paranoia of the 60s protest scene. Anybody care
to point to other novels that do as good a job of portraying that era?
Maxine Hong Kingston's _Tripmaster Monkey_ comes to mind.
